Pilates
Pilates is a whole-body exercise method created by Jospeh Pilates in the early 20th century. A review in 2012[1] described Pilates as “a mind-body exercise that requires core stability, strength, and flexibility, and attention to muscle control, posture, and breathing”

Benefits of Pilates
Pilates is designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance and is suitable for all ages and abilities including people with health concerns such as back / hip pain. Exercises are carried out slowly with control and a focus on the movement. Some of the many benefits of pilates are:
- Promotes a more efficient and supportive core
- Alleviates aches and pains
- Improves mobility and flexibility of the spine
- Facilitates injury prevention and physical rehabilitation
- Relieves stress and tension and promotes a feeling of wellbeing
- Helps maintain and improve bone density
- Expands body awareness
- Integrates mind, body and spirit
- Improves your posture, alignment and muscle tone
- Offers a safe and beneficial form of exercise for a wide range of medical conditions including scoliosis, osteoporosis, arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.
Our Classes
During classes you can work either as hard or gently as you wish to – you choose your own pace. Most importantly – it is FUN!
All classes are mixed ability however the lovely thing about Pilates is that each exercise has several levels of difficulty and can also be adapted / modified to suit individual clients. Laura has spent 3 years teaching clients in mixed ability classes and is able to adapt the exercise to suit everyone, ensuring that every client is looked after and gets the most from their class.
Class sizes will also be kept to a small number (a max of 8 people at The Oast and a max of 12 people at Nampons) to allow each client to get support and guidance from Laura.
First Time Participants:
Anyone who has NOT attended Pilates classes in the past needs to attend an Induction class first before attending a class. This is to ensure that you know some of the fundamental principles of Pilates such as neutral posture, core activation, pelvic neutral and Pilates breathing. You will then feel more comfortable and confident when attending classes.
When attending classes, please:
• Bring an exercise mat or thick bath towel
• Wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise (wearing layers on your upper body is a good idea)
• Bring a drink
• Ensure you inform Laura of any medical conditions or injuries that you have – (regardless of whether you feel they are relevant or not)
