The importance of movement

Movement is essential for our overall wellbeing. NHS England recommend that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week as well as reduce time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity [4].

Physical activity in adults can help in all the following ways and more: [2]

  • Manages Stress
  • Maintains healthy weight
  • Improves quality of life

It may seem hard to integrate a lot of movement into our day to day lives, particularly with desk jobs and office work. However, RevitaliseU-Kent is here to help! We provide many services to help you to increase your movement and wellbeing.

  • 7.3 million working days lost due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders in 2021/22 [1]
  • Back injuries count for 42% of work-related musculoskeletal disorders [1]
  • Physical activity reduces risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 40%, cardiovascular diseases by 35%, and some cancers (colon and breast) by 20%. [2]
  • In January to March 2023, over 70% of those inactive because of long-term sickness, who had a main health condition that was musculoskeletal in nature, reported that they had more than one musculoskeletal condition. [3]

Laura is a qualified pilates instructor with over 2.5 year teaching experience, she will take staff through a Pilates class either online or face to face.

Deskercise Sessions

These online sessions for employees can be followed along at home or in the office, and are suited for all ages and abilities.

Laura is a qualified Pilates instructor with over 2.5 year teaching experience, she will take employees through a Pilates class either online from the comfort of their home or face to face using a conference / meeting room in groups of up to 20 people. These sessions which can be from between 30 – 60 minutes (depending on the time you have available) are fun and engaging and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Sessions can even be adapted so that employees don’t need to change into gym wear or use exercise mats!

Pilates is an exercise method designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance. Pilates is suitable for all ages and abilities and can benefit people with many health concerns including back pain. You can work either as hard or gently as you wish to – you choose your own pace. Most importantly – it is FUN!

Deskercise & Movement sessions

Laura will provide a short online session that employees can follow from their desk, whether that be from home or in the office.

The session will cover easy to follow (and remember) exercises to help prevent aches and pains from building up as well as to help ease tight muscles. Employees don’t need much space around them or to change into gym wear. Suitable for all ages and abilities.

This is a great option if you would like to reach a large number of staff!

Self Care Desk Stretches

Spending long periods of time sitting down can cause muscular tension as well as aches and pains to set in. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ease these issues and feel comfortable throughout the day.

Stretching for a few minutes every hour can help to reduce muscular tension and stiffness.
